Still it Remains
It is the land of the rivers and from it rises the dark ocean of Zhambeer. The land of the holy, the land of the divine, the land of the dwelling of the ants. For here they rule and to them belongs the might of the rivers. Have they been around forever? Well forever is an infinite term and it all of its infinite infinity the presence of the divine seems all but trivial. For it is The Goddess of the Dark which shall rule, as it says in the Book of Chapters – “…for the Lady of the Dark aka The Dark Goddess shall rule the divine.” But alas, her presence is missed, since even if it’s felt the throne is empty. She rules the land high and low but unfathomable is the power she wields from the throne. The Lord himself falls to his knees, so strong is the command the throne holds. Even the ants, the rulers of the Land of the Divine, hold her darkness in high esteem for it is at her bidding, the will of Zhambeer.
The river of blood rises in the east. The spawn of wrathchild, bearing proof for the wild. The Lord protects His Goddess’s throne for soon she returns with the servants of the night.
Toe Killer
Yes, such a person exists. She kills toes and then she leaves the victim to bleed to death. How do I know, cause I am a victim myself. I write this letter on my death bed to make the world aware of the looming threat of the - (dramatic music) - toe killer. As I watch life bleed out through my left foot’s little toe, the distant chuckle of the toe killer echoes in the building. Yes, my death bed is the very same spot where I was attacked. Soon it would turn into the very same spot where I was murdered. But beware, she will shoot your toe under the cover of handing over the weapon. She is a ruthless killer and feels no remorse for the toe which she shoots off. In fact, she will deny it straight out. I couldn’t get justice with evidence and I sincerely hope your fate is better. Can’t type more, last few words. . .
The Race to the Top
Thriving to be the best, only, not doing it right. Aims, aspirations and goals. Maybe its hunger, or desperation, or maybe we are just crazy. Domination, hunger for power. The desire to be at the top of the food chain, or at least thinking that we reside there. You take all that and you come up with a reason for people to have a need to be the best.
But maybe it’s more than that, maybe it’s something else. A fact that is more sacred and profound then any fact which can be formed by the combination of those reasons. Satisfaction!
They say, “You find god, you find satisfaction.” So let us just take that at face value, there are people who claim to have achieved a comfortable level of satisfaction through god. However, what about personal aims and ambitions? Here is an answer to that; when you are looking for god, that is your aim. So if you find him you find satisfaction.
Taking it back to the non-spiritual perspective, what are the reasons behind trying to be the best? Why are people competing to get to the top? What is that attracts us there? Are we craving for something? Want something and feel that it’s only possible if we are on a particular step of the ladder? Maybe an answer to all this is that since humans are supposed to be the superior species the wish to be the best is a species trait. Oh! But even with that reason, the argument can most definitely go on. The questions many, the answers – till now – not worthy!
Ethics 101
I was reading a chapter titled “Social Responsibility and Managerial Ethics” today, and as ironic as it may sound the book tried to justify bribing in a third world country. Countries where, “government officials are paid ridiculously low salaries…” would be the exact words. So we are teaching ethics but at the same time we are making sure that the firm’s business is not affected. We don’t want our managers to get into the ethics dilemma when they know that the person they can bribe is not earning enough and hey! Its not a bribe, it is just a little money to make sure his kids get to buy new clothes. I think I had better ethics before I read this book’s take on ethics.
Moving on; the book talks of people who actually come forward and raise an ethical or moral issue from their organization. What name does it give to them? Whisteblowers! Now do YOU want to be a whistleblower? For one this name is pretty darn suggestive. Whisteblower, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Here is the irony, the three whistleblowers the book talks of were all women. Don’t mean to offend anyone but I could not keep a straight face as I read “Coleen Rowley blew the whistle on her employer…”
Here is what I infer from what I allegedly learned today. They put in a chapter about ethics in the management book, but they make sure to justify bribing in poverty laden countries and not only make it ethical they make you think of yourself as the savior of the poor. Along with that, they close the chapter with a term like whistleblower and talk of employees who blew whistles to make sure that before you actually raise an ethical issue, the word which echoes in your head is “whistleblower”.
I will sign the deal with the devil, thank you!
