Where Am I?

November 17, 2007 at 3:25 pm (Abstract, Random)

I open my eyes and see myself propped up in my bed. My eyes try to focus on the faintly lit display in the otherwise darkened room. The white light actually makes it look eerie. Why am I looking at myself? My head sways to the side. Red walls, yellow shades, somewhere a dim light – a fading inferno. And behind the haze there is white light. Yes, somewhere in the distance is alternate reality. In the room again, only this time there are things in the dark – the terminal only lights a corner of the room, it’s merely a light highlighting me. I think they see me. Another flash! Its darker, there is no light yet I see old severed trees all around me. Trapped inside a sinister forest, something bad happened here. Blood splatters across the picture. A flicker and its my room again, my eyes, wide open, dart around only to find another pair. There’s no face only two vengeful, angry eyes, red as ember. Startled and suddenly everything around me bursts into flames. The eyes disappear but somewhere I saw, somewhere I felt a dark cloak disappearing behind a scurrying figure. The flames vanish as abruptly as they had come. It’s cold, it is very very cold. Where am I? What is dream and what is real? Did I wake up when I was dozing, or did I doze off when I was awake? I can’t say, I can’t tell. My leg twitch at the knee, I start drowning in numbness. I try looking around but can’t anymore. My head feels warm and suddenly I am gone.

State of Emergency Imposed in Pakistan

November 3, 2007 at 6:51 pm (Current Affairs, Politics) (, )

At about quarter past 5 this evening the local news channels went offline. There had been on going discussions about the likelyhood of a state of emergency being enforced in the country and that is what everyones first intution was. Internet (as always) turned out to be the most speedy news source. Emergency has been declared in the country and through different news sources it has been known that the Chief Justice has been deposed.

Local online forums were swarmmed with questions as to what is happening and till now that is my primary source of information. The websites of various local news channels are also being updated with the latest information.

I was out on the road while all of this was happening and the overall situation of Karachi seemed calm, but I am sure most of the people on the road either didnt know what is happening and all of this (till then) was just too premature for any reaction.

How does it effect us? What does the state of emergency actually mean? How would it change our day to day routine lives? What will be the consequences? These are some of the questions in my mind right now.

Will update as the story unfolds.
